Pets provide love for children in domestic abuse shelter

Home for Life recently had the pleasure of working with Storytellers for Good, a video production company that focuses on the outstanding stories in the community.

Home for Life always knew its resident animals were outstanding, so we were thrilled with the chance to show just how special they really are. One of the greatest qualities these animals have is their ability to love, which they happily share with everyone they come in contact with. Many of Home for Life's animals are trained as therapy pets, giving them the opportunity to share their love and can-do attitudes with people who really need it. The animals visit nursing homes, veterans' facilities, at-risk youth centers and domestic abuse shelters.

This video features the work Home for Life does in partnership with the Tubman Family Alliance. Tubman provides a refuge for women and children, safe from the domestic violence they've experienced.

The animals who visit the children at Tubman help to teach them empathy and compassion despite their disabilities, helping to educate the children and stop the cycle of violence. More importantly, the animals bring joy to the children, many of whom have had to leave behind their own pets in order to escape an abusive environment.
